Two bodies are tasked with ANSM’s governance: a Management Board, and a Scientific Board.

In addition, since 2019, the Agency’s policy of openness to civil society has resulted in healthcare system users being systematically involved in our consultative bodies of expertise. We are convinced of the need to work alongside patients and healthcare professionals to ensure that our action addresses the challenges that they face on a daily basis.

For this reason, our decisions are based on the opinions of several consultative committees, in which the expertise of representatives of civil society, their perspective, and their vision of the health sector allow objective and informed decision-making.

Temporary Scientific Committees

All the members of our consultative bodies are subject to ANSM’s Code of Ethics. The members of these committees, agenda and minutes of meetings are published on ANSM’s website. The aim to promote openness towards society as a whole has also led to livestreaming of videos of public hearings on our YouTube channel.

The Agency refers to scientific committee when a question requires the collective advice of external experts. Their recommendations inform our decision-making processes, particularly with regard to “real-life” use of health products.

Our decisions are based on the opinions of experts from:
  • 15 Standing Scientific Committees from one or more medical specialities (cardiovascular therapy, dermatology, oncology, paediatrics, etc.) or a sector of activity (surveillance and pharmacovigilance, safeguarding the use of medicines, etc.). These committees have 10 to 20 members, who sit for a period of four years;
  • Temporary Scientific Committee, specifically set up to address an issue which is not within a Standing Committee’s remit or duties.
Finally, we periodically call on the services of external experts whenever a question requires additional expertise. The ethical requirements are the same as for the bodies’ experts.
